About Mindful Yoga Therapy

Mindful Yoga Therapy was designed to help veterans who are coping with post­traumatic stress to find a calm and steady body and mind. Its protocol has been clinically studied to ensure that it is proven effective for veterans, and Mindful Yoga Therapy programs or resources are now in use at 47 different VA facilities and 50 vet centers nationwide. Yoga teachers can learn how to offer Mindful Yoga Therapy to their communities through a15 ­hour workshop; or in clinical settings through a 100­hour certification program.

About The Faculty

Program trainings are led by Mindful Yoga Therapy Founder and Director Suzanne Manafort, with the support of a senior faculty member. Suzanne has studied extensively with Beryl Bender Birch and Patty Townsend, and serves as a faculty member for The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute and Yoga Center Amherst’s Embodyoga® Teacher Training Program. She is also Director of her own studio, Newington Yoga Center. Suzanne is the co­author of the Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans practice guide, and the producer of three CDs, Yoga Nidra, Breathe In Breathe Out, and Resilience. In 2009, Suzanne was designated a Wells Fargo Second Half Champion for her work with veterans.

About The 15 ­Hour Training

Mindful Yoga Therapy is an empirically informed, clinically tested program comprised of five practices: Pranayama (breathing), Asana (postures connected with breath), Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Gratitude. Each practice is a tool that veterans can use to cope with post­traumatic stress. Together, they form a comprehensive system – a toolbox – that will carry veterans into a life of strength and resilience. This 15­hour program prepares yoga teachers to offer a 12­week program to veterans in their community by covering:

● Why yoga for trauma?

● The MYT “toolbox”: Asana, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Meditation and Gratitude

● Special considerations and specific techniques for working with veterans

● Appropriateness and variations of asana

● Understanding veteran culture

● How to bring Mindful Yoga Therapy into the world

● 12 week protocol

Fifteen (15) hours of Yoga Alliance continuing education credits are available. Cost: $395.
