200-Hour Immersion in the Study of Classical Yoga (RYT200)
With the Hard & The Soft Yoga INstitute
featuring Beryl Bender Birch
April 2017 - October 2017
Whether your intention is simply to expand your yoga practice, or to bring a more mindful sense of wellness into your life, or to step on to the path of becoming a yoga teacher – this training is for you. Our 200-hour (8 month) course of yoga study gives you an opportunity to dive progressively into the deeper and powerfully therapeutic dimensions of the yoga practices. For those who wish to become certified as teachers, this training offers a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification (RYT200) from The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute and Give Back Yoga Foundation.
If your dream is to prepare for a career in yoga service and share with others the physical and psychological benefits that you have derived from your own practice of asana and mindfulness, then this outstanding course curriculum will teach you the foundations of classical yoga and give you the range of tools you need to go from teaching a basic therapeutic asana class and offering techniques for stress relief and beginning meditation, to finding outlets for yoga service projects in your community. Being able to make a difference in people’s lives is empowering and enlivening and makes our own lives feel more satisfying and worthwhile.
The focus of this unique training is an aspect of the 8-limbed path, called kriya yoga, or the yoga of action, “Do the Work”. This means your practice is part of your lifestyle and strengthens and supports your intention to participate in the healing of our world. We are proud of our graduates. They do not sequester themselves in monasteries or drop out of global responsibility. They are leaders in their communities and find the courage to speak out and speak up, to stand up for those how have no voice, to call out injustice, to work for clean food, and drinkable water, to protect Mother Earth and our environment, and, through the discipline of yoga practice, to eradicate anger, greed, hate, and jealousy, not from the world, but from themselves.
If it is your dream to teach, share with us that dream. Whether you hope to teach in schools or studios, whether to athletes or seniors, to those with disabilities or at risk youth, or in all corners of your community, we will help you devise an Individualized Yoga Program (IYP) that focuses on the area in your community or the special population with whom you hope to work. Working with your IYP also prepares you to continue your studies in our 500 hour teacher training certification program or in any of the specialized yoga service programs of the Give Back Yoga Foundation, such as Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans, The Prison Yoga Project, Yoga for 12 Step Recovery, Yoga for Cancer, and others.
Please Email us to ask any questions, or call Nancy at 207-703-6290 so we can have a conversation. This is an incredible opportunity to share this wisdom with others as a certified yoga teacher, or to deepen your knowledge and practice on a personal level.
The Hard & The Soft is a 500 Hour Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance and offers one of the most prestigious and comprehensive yoga teacher training programs in the United States. This training format is a great opportunity for those who have been looking for an outstanding non-residential program offered on weekends over the course of a year. After graduation from our program, teachers are certified through The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute and eligible for registry with Yoga Alliance.
This 200 Hour Certification course consists of 8 weekends, held monthly. After graduation from our 200 hour program, teachers are certified at the 200 hour level through The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute and are eligible for registry with Yoga Alliance. This is an opportunity to take your own teaching and practice to the next level.
Yoga Teachers are increasingly being called upon by students for help in exploring the more subtle aspects of the yoga practices, like pranayama and meditation. Many teachers are teaching asana, but very few are teaching an integral vision of the complete 8-limbed path of classical (raja) yoga, the “royal” path. This training offers you not only a comprehensive study of several different modalities of asana including assists, adjustments, modifications, and alignment, plus the more subtle and refined practices of pranayama and pratyahara, but an in depth exploration of the inner limbs of the 8 limbed path – dharana, dhyana, and samadhi.
Our director, Beryl Bender Birch has been teaching yoga and meditation for 40 years and is the author of four books on yoga, including the best selling Power Yoga. Her latest book, Yoga for Warriors, was written for veterans and was just released by Sounds True Publishing. It is already receiving great acclaim from military members. Beryl is also the Director/Founder of the Give Back Yoga Foundation, which supports yoga teachers in developing service projects in under-served areas of their communities.
Our teacher training program offers a unique opportunity to study with, not only Beryl and Nancy, but with a variety of our senior faculty members, all of whom are outstanding 500 or 1000-hour graduates of The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute. Many of our staff teachers have been teaching and practicing yoga for over 20 years and all have a strong foundation in the study of classical yoga (with Beryl) and are renowned in their respective fields. As all of us here at Yoga in ME and The Hard & The Soft, they continue to grow and study individually and bring to every session, a wide diversity of specialized knowledge and skills.
The program offers an extraordinary opportunity for complete immersion into yoga and all its dimensions, as well as the yoga lifestyle. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals and follow your dream to become an accomplished yoga practitioner and teacher. This program will provide you with the skill, knowledge and confidence to begin teaching yoga, and the weekend format makes it easy to participate. The course is also appropriate for those who may not be interested in teaching but simply wish to advance their training in the study of yoga. For those teachers who already have their 200 hour certification, the program offers the opportunity to gather an additional 200 hours toward 500 hour certification with The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute.
